COLONIAL MEMORIES AND WAR SCARS

DAY 1 - Arrival in Mogadishu

  • Meet-and-Greet at Mogadishu International Airport, secure transfer to our compounded hotel, welcome refreshment and introductory briefing about the rule to observe while travelling in Somalia.

  • Visit to the Somali Youth League Memorial, the Dhagaxtuur Obelisk, and the Monument to the Unknown Soldier, commemorating those who gave their life for Somalia and its independence.

  • Transfer to the Lido, the city’s most famous beach, for a well-deserved seafood lunch, and then enjoy a stroll through the so-called Peace Park, a small oasis of greenery and calm in the heart of this chaotic East African city.

  • Needless to say, during your time in Mogadishu, you'll have the unique chance to meet with local city dwellers, who will share with you their smiles, their stories and even their food.

  • Dinner and overnight in Mogadishu.

DAY 2 - Mogadishu

  • Our second day in Somalia’s capital starts off with a visit to the Fish Market, arguably the most photogenic site in the entire city, although we would not recommend it to the fainthearted, as the place is full of fish blood and guts.

  • We’ll then continue our gallivanting around Mogadishu visiting the old colonial harbour and its splendid lighthouse, an iconic landmark of the city, as well as a few other elegant—albeit heavily damaged—buildings that melancholically remind us of another Somalia, a prosperous country where Italian and Islamic architectonic shapes used to harmoniously blend together.

  • If the security situation permits, we may also attempt a visit to the colourful Bakaara open-air market, the largest of its kind in Somalia and the site of the notorious 1993 Black Hawk Down incident.

  • Alternatively, we will head for the Jazeera Beach, an idyllic stretch of sand along the Indian Ocean, where you’ll be able to take a swim in the crystal-clear waters of Somalia and enjoy a short boat ride to the small rocky island the beach derives its name from (jazeera means “island” in Arabic).

  • Overnight in Mogadishu.

DAY 3 - FAREWELL TO MOGADISHU

  • After enjoying a last Somali meal together, we'll take care of your transfer to Mogadishu International Airport for your flight back home.

  • End of the tour.
