The following itinerary refers to our most popular route in Somaliland. If you are interested in a trip extension to either Puntland or Mogadishu (or both), please visit our dedicated session on this website. DAY 1 - Hargeisa

  • Our tour guide will meet you in the arrival hall of Hargeisa International Airport (exact meeting time will be communicated well in advance per email in accordance to your flight schedule).

  • Dubai option: if you don't feel like taking the flight to Hargeisa on your own you can meet us in Dubai one day before the actual tour begins. Please contact us to learn more.

  • Introductory briefing about the region, the route and the set of rules to observe while travelling in East Africa.

  • Hargeisa sightseeing: MiG War Memorial, Central Souk, Camel Bazaar, Gold Market and plenty of colorfully painted traditional Somali houses.

  • Traditional Somali lunch.

  • Chillout afternoon to enjoy the slow pace of Somali daily life.

  • Dinner and overnight in Hargeisa.

DAY 2 - Arabsiyo, Dhagah Khoure, Gabiley and Borama

  • In the morning we will head south towards Gabiley, the breadbasket of Somaliland.

  • On the way we'll stop the town of Arabsiyo and tour the rural villages dotting the surrounding valleys.

  • After lunch we'll visit the rock art site at Dhagah Khoure before continuing our journey to Borama, a major town close to the border with Ethiopia.

  • Dinner and overnight in Borama

DAY 3 - Borama, Jufo and Hargeisa

  • In the morning we'll enjoy a walking tour around Borama and visit its historic University, the first post war institution of higher learning throughout Somaliland.

  • After lunch we'll drive back to Hargeisa.

  • Along the road we'll stop at the nomadic settlement of Jufo, where we'll be able to witness ancient shepherding traditions.

  • Dinner and overnight in Hargeisa.

DAY 4 - Laas Gel and Berbera

  • We'll start the day early and travel to the caves of Las Geel, a fascinating timeless place that houses rock paintings dating back 5,000 years.

  • After lunch we'll continue to Berbera, a major coastal town with a fair share of rare Ottoman and British architectural gems.

  • Evening stroll through the old town of Berbera.

  • Dinner and overnight in Berbera.

DAY 5 - Berbera and Sheikh

  • We will spend a lazy morning exploring Berbera and its beaches.

  • After lunch we leave the city and head to the mountains around Sheikh, travelling through stunning end-of-the-world landscapes.

  • In Sheikh we'll then visit the ruins of Ferdusa, a city dating back to the 16th century, before eventually heading back to Berbera.

  • Dinner and overnight in Berbera.

DAY 6 - Ga'an Libah and Hargeisa

  • We'll slowly drive back to Hargeisa stopping Ga’an Libah on the way.

  • Ga’an Libah means 'lion's paw' and although lions have long been extinct here, this well watered and relatively lush region holds a stunning diversity of wildlife including kudu, hyena, gazelles, baboons and leopard.

  • The views from the edge, looking out over the plains below, are breathtaking, and the journey here is just as interesting: a two to three hour drive through the desert passing nomadic settlements and remote mountain hamlets.

  • In the late afternoon we will be back in Hargeisa.

  • Dinner and overnight in Hargeisa.

Day 7 - Flight back home or transfer to further destinations

  • After enjoying a last lavish Somali-style breakfast together we'll take care of your transfer to the airport/train station of choice.

  • For those flying out: we will arrange transfer to Hargeisa International Airport for your flight back home.

  • For those wishing to take the bus to reach further destinations: we will arrange transport to the local bus station.

  • End of the tour.


4 to 9 participants: 1300 € 

The price includes: double/twin room accommodation (breakfast included; single supplement: 18 euros/night), private transport in the region (jeep or minivan), entrance fees to the attractions listed in the itinerary, guiding and translation service.

The price does not include: international flights and any other flight not explicitly included in the tour price and itinerary, meals, drinks and tips, visas if required, entrance fees to attractions not listed in the itinerary, insurance.

The route of this tour has been carefully designed after several research trips in the region. It is, however, always possible to slightly modify the itinerary according to the needs and the suggestions of the participants.
